PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, Balasore, has a rich and distinguished legacy dating back to the year 1972. The Vidyalaya was established under the sponsorship of the Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE), Balasore, with the noble objective of fulfilling the long-cherished educational aspirations of defence personnel and their families. The establishment of the Vidyalaya was envisaged as an important step towards providing uniform, quality and holistic education to the wards of defence employees, who, owing to the transferable nature of their service, frequently move from one part of the country to another.
The frequent transfers of defence personnel often posed challenges in ensuring continuity and consistency in the education of their children. The Kendriya Vidyalaya system was conceived to address this very need by providing a common educational framework, a uniform curriculum and opportunities for the seamless continuation of studies across the country. In keeping with this vision, the Vidyalaya at Balasore began its journey with a limited number of classes in a temporary building, modest in its infrastructure but strong in its purpose and commitment to education.
Over the years, the Vidyalaya has witnessed remarkable growth and transformation. What began as a small educational initiative primarily intended to cater to the wards of PXE personnel gradually developed into one of the premier educational institutions of the district. With the passage of time, its educational services extended beyond the children of PXE personnel and embraced the wards of employees of the Integrated Test Range (ITR), other Central Government departments, State Government establishments, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and other eligible categories, in accordance with the admission provisions of Kendriya Vidyalayas.
